Are Your Business Clocks Out of Sync?

Your Business Tasks Have Timings Between Each Other. If These Clocks Are Out of Sync, it Costs You Business!

Our body has its own internal network of clocks. These biological clocks help keep your internal trains running on time with each other. They help you feel alert during the day, hungry at mealtimes, and sleepy at night. From your mood to waking and sleeping, fertility to digestion, and melatonin to liver, keeping your body’s daily cycles, or circadian rhythms, in sync is important for your health.

Your business has its rhythms too. The various tasks need to meet the timing needs of the other tasks in order to function well. For example, it doesn't help your business to spend time on client product delivery BEFORE you've enrolled that client, right?

While our body clocks are mostly out of our conscious control, we can very much influence the timing of our business clocks. For example, some of us are definitely not morning people. Setting our tasks' calendar to do 1-1 appointments in the morning may not provide our clients with the best experience.

That one seems obvious. Here is a check to do. We all have business tasks we'd just as soon not do. They aren't our favorite. We may semi-consciously avoid doing them unless we really are forced to deal with them.

The 5-Minute exercise here is for you to write down the overview tasks in an aspect of your business, say your client journey. You'll get a list. Here is an example using the Client Journey Map we use for the client journey part of our business:

Awareness

Nurturing

Linkage

Becoming a Customer

Aftercare

Now ask yourself, when is your most productive time to work on aspects of your business?

Morning, afternoon, night, before other work, after everything else at night, on the weekends, etc.

Now, look at the task list you created. Which of the steps do you LEAST like to do? Does it get the least amount of your energy investment? I find one task often is getting "shorted" and its often our least favorite.

Here's the big tip: putting more energy into that task could dramatically help you grow your business. And if you want to supercharge getting through your least favorite task, schedule it on your calendar during your MOST productive time. Making some real mileage on your under-served task can boost not only that task. but reset your tasks' clocks so that there is again good flow between your business steps.

Try this simple exercise to reset your business clocks.
